A Pocket Workshop

This project transforms a small living room nook into a fully functional woodworking space. The division is built as a timber frame, fitted with lightweight polycarbonate panels. These ensure the wall is sturdy and dust-resistant while still maintaining a sense of openness and brightness between the workshop and the living area.

The wall is designed to open in various ways, allowing the space to shift between states of use. It can stand fully closed to contain dust and define the workshop as its own room, or it can be partially or fully open, extending the workshop into the living space. When closed, the door sits flush with the adjacent wall, making the installation feel like an integrated part of the home.

The non-moveable section of the wall anchors the workbench: a piece of furniture designed in the same architectural language as the wall itself. The bench provides both workspace and adaptable storage, supporting different modes of making while contributing to the clarity of the design.

This flexible arrangement offers the client a dedicated woodworking environment that can seamlessly disappear back into the fabric of the living room when not in use.
