Atelier SW was founded in 2024 by Silas Windrich, an engineer, furniture maker and architect (in spe) who graduated from TU Delft. With experience at architectural offices such as Studio Nauta, NLTO and Space Encounters, Atelier SW operates at the intersection of architecture, design, and furniture making. Projects range from housing and public buildings to transformations, extensions, and smaller-scale works that allow for refined detailing and hands-on construction, often realized in close collaboration with experts and craftsmen.

The atelier takes a critical view of transformation and material use, rooted in the belief that meaningful architecture begins with a deep engagement with the physical world. With attention to how materials are chosen, applied, and experienced, they seek to create work that is both sustainable and grounded. This ambition extends across all scales, from large housing projects to the smallest crafted details.

A large part of the atelier’s position within architecture lies in a continuous contemplation of materiality. They see in material use not only a practical concern but also the core of a wider cultural crisis—one of detachment: from materials, from meaning, from place, and from responsibility. Where detachment breeds alienation, Atelier SW strives to restore contact, seeking an architecture that is tactile, thoughtful, and honest. Each project becomes an investigation into how design can reconnect us with our surroundings in a direct and responsible way.
